China's minister of Industry and Information Technology, Li Yizhong, warned Google Inc. (Nasdaq: GOOG) that it would be seen as "unfriendly and irresponsible" if the internet search giant didn't obey China's internet search censorship laws.
Chinese law dictates that internet search engines like those provided by Google and Microsoft Corporation (Nasdaq: MSFT) block content that criticizes the Chinese government, as well as some other types of content such as pornography.
Google angered China when it said it might stop censoring its search results in China.
Google is one of the world's biggest proponents for an open internet and providing everyone with access to as much information as possible is one of the company's main goals, which is at odds with Chinese internet laws.
