Analysts at Morningstar have compiled a list of top takeover targets in the biotechnology sector this year.

Morningstar said that it weighed drug portfolio strength, fit with potential partners, profit-boosting power, and financial health in assessing the chances of a takeover.

The list includes Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated (NASDAQ: VRTX), Auxilium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: AUXL), Human Genome sciences (NASDAQ: HGSI), interMune, Inc. (NASDAQ: ITMN), Celgene Corporation (NASDAQ: CELG), Exelixis, Inc. (NASDAQ: EXEL), Genzyme Corporation (NASDAQ: GENZ), Crucell , Elan Corporation, plc (ADR) (NYSE: ELN), and BioMarin Pharmaceutical, Inc. (NASDAQ: BMRN).
