Download Every Movie Ever Made in 4 Minutes (CSCO)
March 09, 2010 12:29 PM
Can you really download the entire volume of movies ever produced in the time it takes to eat a bowl of cereal? That's what was promised this morning by Cisco System Inc. (NASDAQ: CSCO) in their press conference releasing new carrier routing system technology to be released as early as Q3 2010.
The CRS-3 is touted as being able to deliver 322 terabytes per second. This is three times greater than Cisco's current CRS-1, and is due to respond to the rapid increase in demand for bandwidth technology in the coming years.
This release also comes with what Cisco hopes is a fundamental change for their business structure. Once a "plumber" for internet service providers, Cisco is looking to instead become a viable business and technological partner.
Besides downloading every movie ever made in 4 minutes, what else can 422 terabytes do for you?
- download the entire printed collection of the Library of Congress in one second
- deliver 1G to every household in San Fransisco
- enable every man, woman and child in China to simultaneously make a video call
