Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) outsold General Motors Co. in February for the first time in more than a decade. It sold 334 cars more than GM in the U.S.

Ford attributed the 43% jump in sales to the strong demand for its cars. It also cut into the sales of Toyota (NYSE: TM), which is struggling with the recall of its cars due to safety concerns.

Ford experienced renewed demand from rental-car companies and other corporate fleets, which are buying after weak sales in 2009. Also, car sales went up as consumers continued to shop for more fuel-efficient vehicles. Ford’s fleet sales increased 74% over that of February 2009.
