12% Gain In U.S. Sales For GM Still Less Than Expected

Bloomberg reported that General Motors Co. posted a 12% increase in U.S. sales for the month of February. This was still lower than analysts’ expectations of a 20% rise. Snowstorms curbed showroom traffic across the country. Deliveries rose to 141,951 from 127,296 a year back.

The results were the direct effect of GM’s plans to sell or shut four U.S. brands - Saab, Hummer, Saturn and Pontiac - as part of the government bailout plan. GM said that deliveries for these four vehicle lines fell 86% to 3,102.

GM’s sales may be indicative of the weakening of the industry’s rebound from the 2009 slump.
