More Deaths Linked To Toyota Sudden Acceleration Faults (TM)

The sudden acceleration faults in Toyota Motor Corporation’s (ADR) (NYSE: TM) cars have caused 34 deaths, up from the 21 deaths that were recorded prior to the millions of cars that were recalled by Toyota. Of the 34 deaths reported due to the faulty acceleration issues, 13 were filed after Jan 22, 2010, when Toyota began the spate of vehicle recalls.
In at least 11 of these cases, there were eyewitness reports as well as physical evidence like trapped floor mats, that linked accidents and deaths, to the acceleration faults.
While the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has received a number of complaints, there are few clues as to why the defect in Toyota models cropped up. The NHTSA has independently verified five sudden acceleration related deaths in Toyotas, with four of these being in a crash in Santee, California.
