Verizon (NYSE: VZ), the largest wireless company in the U.S., could soon be adding Skype software to some of its phones. Verizon (VZ) has not yet confirmed the news. The service would let the Verizon customer make Skype calls using the 3G data network.
Skype has been seeking access to wireless networks for the past several years. The Verizon deal is expected to be a major milestone for the VOIP firm. With the steady reduction in voice services prices, wireless companies such as Verizon and AT&T (NYSE: ATT) are now concentrating on data packages as revenue generators. Apps, such as Skype, would let them boost their data packages sale.
