According to the reports, Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) is eying a deal with AOL search. Nicholas Carlson, who has reportedly spilled the beans on the Silicon Alley Insider site, said there is a high probability of Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) jumping in the fray to outbid GOOG for AOL’s search business.

Sources close to GOOG suggest that the company plans to take an aggressive stance in its negotiations with AOL, making it impossible for competitors to get an edge. The ongoing deal between Google and AOL is due to end shortly and AOL’s CEO, Tim Armstrong, has indicated that he is open to all offers. Although AOL’s current deal with GOOG was beneficial to both the parties, Armstrong wants certain conditions to be modified during negotiations. Given the volume of searches produced by AOL, there is a high probability of GOOG opting for a compromise to secure the deal.
