Dow Chemical Co (NYSE: DOW) reported its fourth-quarter net earnings at $172 million before certain items are paid, or $0.18 a share, as compared to a loss of $1.55 billion, or $1.68 a share, in the same period the previous year. DOW’s sales rose 15% to $12.5 billion
The Midland, Michigan-based chemical giant said that excluding special items, its earnings came out to be $0.18 a share. DOW said there is sustained growth in demand in the emerging markets. However, growth in the US and Europe will continue to lag amid high unemployment and questions surrounding the sustainability of government stimulus spending.
DOW’s shares gained 0.38% to $28.74 in pre-market trading.
