BHP Billiton
BHP
, the world's largest mining company, said it could sell some Potash Corp.
POT
assets if it is successful in its $38.6 billion acquisition for the world's largest potash producer. BHP singled out Potash's nitrogen and phosphates business as one asset that could be sold if the acquisition is successful. Analysts estimate Potash Corp's phosphates business is worth around $7 billion and its nitrogen business is worth abut $5 billion, each ranked third or fourth in their industries, Reuters reported. Canadian fertilizer producer Agrium
AGU
has already expressed interest in those Potash businesses. Potash has twice rebuffed BHP's overtures and BHP is planning to meet with North American investors that own shares of both companies to convince them of the deal's merits.
