Biogen Idec Inc (NASDAQ: BIIB) shares jumped 5.44% to $49.27. The volume of BIIB shares traded was 172% higher than normal. BIIB has surged on reports of European pharmaceutical giant Sanofi-Aventis (NYSE: SNY) seeking an acquisition in the US for $20 billion.
Genzyme Corporation (NASDAQ: GENZ) shares gained 6.14% to $52.92. The volume of GENZ shares traded was 100% higher than normal. GENZ is one of the three companies that have received a boost from reports of European pharmaceutical giant Sanofi-Aventis (NYSE: SNY) seeking an acquisition in the US for $20 billion.
The Middleby Corporation (NASDAQ: MIDD) shares moved up 2.90% to $56.09. The volume of MIDD shares traded was 42% higher than normal. The shareholders of Perfect Fry Corporation (PFC) have approved the sale of all the assets held by PFC’s wholly owned subsidiary, Perfect Fry Company Ltd, to a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Middleby Corporation.
