Like the US this week, Canada is releasing their Consumer Price Index percentages as well. In addition, their Retail Sales numbers will come out. All this is happening at 8:30 AM ET Friday, May 22, 2015. There will be four reports released for Canada including:

  • Core CPI
  • CPI
  • Core Retail Sales
  • Retail Sales

Based on market research on the USD/CAD by Apex Investing, it was found that the market tends to react and make a move and then pull back. For this kind of market reaction, an Iron Condor is recommended as it’s a neutral strategy. Irregardless to the direction the market moves, if it pulls back, the closer it comes to the center of the Iron Condor setup, the more profit potential.

Set Up For A $30 Or More Profit Potential Or No Trade

For this trade you want to set up for a $30 profit potential or more, entering as early as 8:00 AM ET for 10:00 AM ET expirations. To do this, buy a lower Nadex USD/CAD spread for approximately $15 and sell an upper Nadex USD/CAD spread for approximately $15. A Nadex USD/CAD spread is a derivative of the forex spot USD/CAD market. Be sure the ceiling of the lower bought spread meets the floor of the upper sold spread and is where the then current underlying market USD/CAD is trading. Nadex offers defined risk and an Iron Condor offers limited risk. With this profit potential the market can move 60 pips in one direction for a 1:1 max risk reward ratio. The trade can be left on until expiration.

Traders in general watch the Core Consumer Price Index release, as it is the percentage change in the price of goods and services purchased by consumers, excluding the eight most volatile items. The Consumer Price Index includes the volatile items in its number. The volatile items account for about a quarter of the CPI and can distort the CPI. Core Retail Sales gives the change in total value of sales at the retail level excluding automobile sales, which is also quite volatile, and the Retail Sales reports include the auto sales numbers.
