Various US reports are coming out on Wednesday, at 8:30 AM ET, May 13, 2015, regarding sales and pricing on goods and services.
- Core Retail Sales
- Retail Sales
- Import Prices
Core Retail Sales is the change in total value of sales at the retail level but excludes automobiles, while Retail Sales includes automobiles in the change of total value at the retail level. Apparently automobile sales account for 20 percent of the retail sales and tend to be volatile, with the possibility of distorting a trend. Therefore the core data is thought of as a better gauge for spending trends. Import Prices measures the change in the price of imported goods and services purchased domestically. This is inflation data and is the earliest government-released inflation data for the month.
Trade Opportunity For The EUR/USD
All three reports are released and are anticipated to cause a move in the EUR/USD market creating a trade opportunity for an Iron Condor strategy. Entering as early as 7:00 AM ET for 9:00 AM ET expirations, buy a lower Nadex EUR/USD Spread and sell an upper Nadex EUR/USD Spread. Be sure the trade setup has a profit potential of $35 or more. The floor of your sold spread, and the ceiling of your bought spread, should meet and be where the then current underlying EUR/USD market is trading.
Iron Condor Should Have A $35 Or More Profit Potential
It’s important that your Iron Condor have at least $35 or more of profit potential. If you are unable to find the right spreads to come up with this profit potential, or your ceiling and floor don’t fall in very close or right where the current underlying market is trading, then don’t place the trade. Once the reports are released, the EUR/USD market is anticipated to react and make it’s move, then pull back. To give this trade plenty of time to play out, you can leave it on until expiration. Try to have close to an equal amount of profit potential on each side of your Iron Condor to keep the trade balanced.
