It is rare that I do a book review on non-investment related books, however this book is about business and overcoming obstacles. This is a true autobiographical account of twin boys who grew up in Northern California with unbelievable challenges, traveled to Hollywood, and with no experience whatsoever and no connections in the business, produced a high quality motion pictures with award winning movie stars. The book is called

I just happen to stumble upn this book when I went to the library yesterday to look for something else. It was out on display, I looked at the cover, and it peaked my interest, for a few reasons. If you think you had a tough childhood, you should read about these guys. Their father was an alcoholic and homeless, causing him to be in and out of trouble with the law. He lived in a state park and his truck but eventually ended up dying in jail. They lived with their mother in a tiny shack with one bedroom and no shower. They were one of the poorest families living in one of the richest counties in the United States, Marin County. On top of that, their uncle was murdered.

The goal of the boys was to become professional baseball players. Unfortunately, that goal fell through, so in honor of their father, they decided to move to Hollywood make a quasi-autobiographical movie. The movie is called

These are a couple of guys in their twenties with no training in screenwriting or motion picture production, no connections to people 'in the business', and of course, no money. They wrote the script, hired the actors, obtained the production equipment, hired the production staff, long before they were aboe to raise money for the production. The actors included Academy Award nominees Ed Harris, Brad Dourif, and Robert Forster.

The Miller brothers ran into every conceivable problem that they could possibly run into and a lot more problems that were inconceivable. They cover all their major trials and tribulations in depressing and humorous detail. Anyone who has ever considered creating their own movie from start to finish, better read this book first.

As a matter of fact, anyone who is in business for themselves or is considering starting their own business should read this book. And of course, anyone who want a feel-good entertaining page-turner true life book would enjoy
