Brett Favre has begun indicating to Minnesota Vikings officials that he is retiring for a 3rd time according to the
Minnesota Star Tribune.
Favre apparently began informing Vikings officials late Monday night that he would not be returning for a 20th season. Favre, 41, had ankle surgery in the offseason and his ankle has not responded to the surgery the way Favre has wanted. Coming off a career year in which he threw for 4202 yards, 33 touchdowns and a career-low seven interceptions, many expected Favre would eventually make a return for one final year. Favre was quoted last month as saying, "After almost nine weeks, [the ankle is] not where I would like it to be, but I'm working at it. Maybe it never gets to where I want it to be. Forty years old ... three surgeries ... that's all you need to know." Last year, Favre had signed a two-year, $25 million contract that would have paid him $13 million this season. Favre's agent, Bus Cook, did not immediately respond to text messages, nor did Vikings officials who are in a two day meeting about the state of the team, unrelated to Favre's announcement.
