The Senate passed a $149 billion aid package that will assist the jobless and provide tax breaks.
The package, which was approved by a vote of 62 to 36, was passed on Wednesday. The package will now head to the House of Representatives, where Democrats have been aggressively pushing for job creation measures to counter the worst downturn in the U.S. economy since the Great Depression.
Democrats have repeatedly said that job creation is their main priority.
