The S&P VIX which measures volatility in the S&P stock index spikes up by 32.18 percent from the news release Thursday of a Malaysian commercial aircraft being destroyed of of the air near Ukraine-Russia.

The volatility indexes highest point on Thursday was just shy of 40 percent, at 39.8 percent, from Wednesday's close. On Friday the VIX index decreased by 15.96 percent, tracing backed down to near a 1.3 percent increase from Wednesday close.
