Instagram, made up of the words "instant camera" and "telegram," is an online mobile photo- and video-sharing and social networking service.
It enables users to share pictures on a variety of social networking services, such as Facebook FB, Twitter, Tumblr and Flickr. Created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, it was launched in October 2010 and now has more than 150 million active users. Facebook purchased the app for $1 billion in 2012.
