Rapt.fm: Epic Rap Battle Platform
Rapt.fm founder Erik Torenberg and his team may soon bring freestyle battles to an epic level. These novice rappers are bent on creating a cutting-edge web platform exclusively for freestyle battles. The site will provide aspiring rappers beats and opportunities to battle in front of a live audience, which then votes for a winner.
In an interview with Benzinga, Torenberg said, “Rapt.fm is a website that offers real-time freestyle rap competitions. Imagine Skype video chat, but with beats in the background so people rap over them, and a live audience, people from all over the world, participating and voting for who they like best.”
Preparation for the site's launch this fall is progressing. Torenberg said, “We actually begin our fundraising August 14th, with the Bizdom Demo day. 70 investors will be in attendance to hear us pitch. We plan to launch late October, and we want to focus on building an active community of rappers and viewers and designing the game to suit their needs.”
Rapt.fm has the potential to appeal to a sizable audience. Over a million individuals subscribe to Youtube's Epic Rap Battles of History by nicepeter. These subscribers would likely also enjoy viewing and participating in rap battles on Rapt.fm.
The next step for Rapt.fm is the launch; then building a community, and incorporating tournaments.
In regards to the future of Rapt.fm, Torenberg said, “This could be an XBox game, like Guitar Hero or Dance Dance Revolution. This could be a talent discovery platform to find and produce the next rap superstar. And, while we want to dominate the rap market, this technology could be a platform that hosts other music genres and subjects.”
In the next few months, Torenberg said he would like to incorporate profiles, point systems and a "practice" page - equipped with games to hone rap skills.
Eventually, Rapt.fm would like to tap into the large Chinese rap market, according to Torenberg. For now, Torenberg and the Rapt.fm team are focusing on, “...creat[ing] an enjoyable, welcoming, and edifying environment for everyone involved, from the rapper looking to sharpen his craft, to the fan looking to appreciate quality rap, to the user who just wants to have fun with her friends.”
Torenberg said anyone can freestyle. He added that this startup will give the world's rappers a chance to hone their skills or just have some fun.
Someday, Rapt.fm might hope to be purchased by Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) or other video site operators. Rapt.fm might provide an acquirer more targeted exposure to internet rap battles. Here is the Rapt.fm pitch deck, if you are interested in investing or just want to know more about it.
