Cisco Systems, Inc. CSCO Executive Chairman John Chambers spoke about the upcoming U.S. election at the Bloomberg Breakaway Summit.

Chambers said that the Republican nominee Donald Trump will likely win the presidential race based on his surging momentum. However, he suggested that regardless of which party wins the election, they should look toward India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inspiration.

"The real key issue here is I think the next President should be the person who outlines what Prime Minister Modi is going to do when he comes here in the first week of June," he said.

Modi will be visiting the United States in June and will also address a joint session of Congress.

Modi will talk about a "digital India" and growing the national economy not at 6 or 7 percent but at 10 to 11 percent. Modi will talk about a "digital manufacturing India," a "digital startup India" and how the country can re-examine its regulations and create millions of jobs per month.

Modi will also talk about revamping his country's healthcare and education system.

"That's what the nation's debate should be about," Chambers said. "And both parties should win by saying here is how you change your country.
