Stocks Begin Day in Downturn

As of 9:33 a.m. EST, The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 30.98 points, or 0.31%, to 10162.17, the Standard & Poor's 500 sank 6.5 points, or 0.59%, to 1090.28 and the Nasdaq Composite sank 12.30 points, or 0.56%, to 2198.12.
Although it is on many minds, high worries about China's strength against possible inflation has not been called a cause of the stock decline. New lending has been halted by many Chinese Bank Branches, after already being slow to lend earlier this month.
Fourth-Quarter reports of some stocks did report higher than expected earnings such as Verizon (NYSE:VZ) and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ).
