Oracle To Discuss Sun Integration At Press Event

Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL) has scheduled a press event for January 27 to discuss details of how the company plans to integrate Sun Microsystems Inc. (Nasdaq: JAVA).
European regulators have been scrutinizing the merger between Oracle and Sun out of concern that it could hinder the development of Sun's open-source MySQL database software.
In its defense, Oracle has said that its own proprietary software doesn't compete directly with MySQL, and promised to continue maintaining the open-source software after the merger is closed.
Oracle announced its plan to buy Sun Microsystems in April of last year. The merger has already been cleared by American antitrust regulators; their European counterparts represent the last hurdle for Oracle to complete the deal.
It is looking more likely that the European regulators will clear the deal as well.
