Companies Unveil Their 3-D Vision

The advent of smash-hit film "Avatar", filmed in 3-D, has highlighted a very recent move towards bringing the full 3-D experience into the living room.

In a bid to capture a share of what promises to be an exciting and lucrative market, numerous companies unveiled products connected with 3-D at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show. Many of the announcements involved 3-D programming for TV, from entities such as ESPN - owned by Disney (NYSE: DIS) - and a joint venture led by Discovery (NASDAQ: DISCA), Sony (NYSE: SNE), and Imax (NASDAQ: IMAX) for a TV channel dedicated to 3-D programming.

The push towards 3-D entertainment in the theater and living room - as evidenced by the runaway success of "Avatar" - appears to be less of a fad and more of a mainstream shift in the entertainment industry.
