Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) has won an important legal round against Psystar Corp., which sells computers based on the Apple Macintosh operating system. This led to copyright infringement claims by Apple Inc. with the lawsuit being filed in July 2008.
Both parties requested U.S. District Judge William Alsup to decide on many of the case's key issues, including, as Psystar alleges, whether Apple, based in Cupertino, Calif., is abusing its Macintosh software copyright. The ruling by Judge Alsup came in favor of Apple Inc. The Judge said that Psystar has exceeded its rights in usage of the Mac OS X.
Incidentally, Psystar has already filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in May. In a related development, Psystar is based in Doral, Fla and its website in Sunday offered three desktop computers using the Mac OS with prices ranging from $599 to $1,499.
