United Technologies Corp.(UTX) to Buy General Electric Co.’s Fire Alarm and Surveillance-systems Unit for $1.82B

United Technologies Corp.(NYSE: UTX) agreed to buy for $1.82B the fire alarm and surveillance-systems unit of General Electric Co., pending regulatory approvals.

The deal bolsters United Technologies (UTX) strategy of offering service contracts for equipment and systems in commercial buildings, locking in revenue streams over years. The transaction is expected to be “earnings neutral” after restructuring costs next year and add to profit in 2011.
