FDA Takes a Stand Against Sodium

The Food and Drug Administration has something new on the "wanted" list: Salt.
The FDA is considering taking a stand against companies who are "hiding" salt in their products. This effort will require food makers to gradually reduce the amount of sodium found within the foods. Therefore, real results could take quite a while.
With the average American consuming approximately 1.5 teaspoons of salt a day, we are well above the needed amount and entering into dangerous territory. With this much salt intake a day, we are increasing our risks of high blood pressure and stoke, among other serious conditions.
Food makers are arguing that there is nothing else available to ensure the same great taste; therefore, reducing the salt levels will lead to consumer dissatisfaction.
It seems the fight against sodium and seeking an acceptable replacement is continuing and will likely still be an issue in the future.
