A study provided by iSuppli Corp, a research firm speecializing in the electronics industry, predicts double-digit growth in semiconductor spending in 2010, revealing a promising year for companies such as Intel (NASDAQ: INTC), Texas Instruments (NYSE: TXN), Qualcomm (NASDAQ: QCOM), and AMD (NYSE: AMD).
Spending from original equipment manufacturers is expected to rise by 13% in 2010 as a result of an expected increase in consumer demand. Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ), for example, will likely increase its spending on semiconductor equipment by 15%. Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL), Dell (NASDAQ: DELL), and Nokia (NYSE: NOK), are expected to also increase their spending.
This news bodes well for semiconductor chip companies, and could serve as a signal for a mid-term investment in the leaders in the industry, such as those described above. If consumer demand for electronics does in fact increase, as major electronics companies predict, then a move into semiconductors would be a wise decision.
