Is Your Diet an Epic Fail? It May be Your Genes

With various diets on the market, many people are unsure of where to start. Previously the low-carb diet was the fad with calorie counting turning to carbohydrate counting. Others recommend reducing the fat in your diet. Many companies claim miracle pills are guaranteed to remove the weight. What do all of these things have in common? They each work for some people, but not all.

Mindy Dopler Nelson of Stanford University lead a recent study that suggests your diet failure may be a result of your genes. Specifically, the new test used by this study is said to determine if a person will be more successful on a low-carb or a low-fat diet depending on their genetic makeup.

Despite the implications this study could have if replicated to show validity and reliability, many are skeptical that this is just another pitch to get people to undergo gene-testing for a company's profit.

Do not buy into the results of this study just yet, especially since the sample size was only 135 women and has yet to be replicated. However, it could be a newly explored avenue that may have some practical implications in the future.
