Today is the birthday of Lance Bass of ‘NSync fame. Benzinga would like to honor the actor and pop star the way we best know how -- with five Lance Bass themed stocks for investors to consider.
“I Want You Back”
Sometimes, we make a mistake and let someone or something go from our lives that we shouldn't. Almost everyone has a story of the guy or girl who got away, and who they'd give anything to get back with. On Wall Street, that stock is Merge Healthcare
MRGE
, which jumped 20% Tuesday, crushing the hopes and dreams of everyone who sold the stock on Monday.
“Tearing Up My Heart”
It's always a heartbreaker to see a stock that loses a ton of money, doubly so if you're the one who held the hot potato as the music stopped. This year, that stock is Allied Irish Banks
AIB
. The stock is down 25% YTD and 83% in the last 12 months, which means if you were heavily invested in AIB, your teenage kids might be looking at community college and/or work study this fall.
“God Must Have Spent a Little More Time On You”
Biglari Holdings
BH
is a stock that seems to have been touched with Midas' golden finger. With a crazy EPS of 24.33, it's pretty clear that god put a lot of effort into this stock. On top of that, BH owns Steak N Shake, which throws together the best burgers and shakes this side of the pearly gates.
“Bye, Bye, Bye”
Stock to sell Fedex

FDX
Gas prices are higher than Cheech at Woodstock, and look to come down around the same time he does. Why would you want to be involved with a company reliant on fuel to provide its primary service? It's not terribly easy to pass those extra costs on to consumers without sending them scrambling to competitors like the government subsidized USPS. Fedex also has an unfriendly debt ratio, poor growth rates, and some poor overall financials. It might be time to wave goodbye to this one.
“Girlfriend”
Microsoft
MSFT
seems like the perfect mate for your portfolio -- a stock you never get rid of, so long as she keeps doing what you love. You might even be able to talk her into a merger with a penny stock you meet at the bar. Yet, despite all the good things she does for you, you just can't bring yourself to pop into the jewelery store and put a ring on her finger. Microsoft never seems to
get enough love,
even with a name brand that moves consumers and enough free cash flow to purchase a small nation.
