Options May Be Coming For Palladium, Platinum ETFs

The Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is reportedly considering options trading on the ETFS Physical Palladium Shares (NYSE: PALL) and the ETFS Physical Platinum Shares (NYSE: PPLT).

If the request is granted, it would mark the first time the CFTC has permitted options trading on palladium and platinum ETFs.

In less than a full year of trading, PALL and PPLT have proven adept at attracting assets, gaining $436.4 million and $537.8 million in assets under management, respectively.

ETF Securities and its clearing agent must first obtain “exemptive relief” under Rule 4(c) of the Commodity Exchange Act, according to Index Universe. The Options Clearing Corp. made the request for exemptive relief.
