Railroads Strong Despite Weak Tape (DJI, UNP, CSX, KSU)

Despite a lackluster day that saw the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) lose triple digit gains and close down 69 points, the railroads had an impressive showing today.
Union Pacific (NYSE: UNP), the nation's largest railroad by revenue, rose $1.88, or 2.75%, to $70.12. Volume was strong with more than 5.4 million shares traded versus the 4.1 million three-month average daily volume.
CSX Corporation (NYSE: CSX) rose 58 cents, or 1.15%, to $50.82 while Kansas City Southern (NYSE: KSU) rose 74 cents, or 2.05%, to $36.79.
