The Online Lending Policy Institute (OLPI) today announced that it will partner with Detroit-based financial media outlet Benzinga for the Benzinga Global Fintech Awards Gala (BZ Awards) in NYC on May 15, 2018. The BZ Awards celebrate innovative companies in the rapidly growing Fintech space. OLPI provides thought leadership and facilitates crucial conversations about the rapidly changing legal and regulatory landscape in the Fintech space.

This is OLPI’s first year at the BZ Awards. The Institute runs its own annual Policy Summit in DC (this year’s Summit is October 9, 2018). According to Boston University Professor Cornelius Hurley, director of OLPI, “The advance of fintech is both inevitable and fragile. OLPI seeks to move the discussion of fintech in a positive direction to the betterment of all stakeholders.”

OLPI will be presenting a panel discussion at the BZ Awards titled “The Rapidly Changing Legal and Policy Landscape for Marketplace Lending and Fintech.” The session will discuss topics such as the OCC's proposed fintech charter, Madden v. Midland Funding, LendingClub, and more.

Speakers include:

  • Colin Darke, general counsel, Rocket Loans
  • John Kromer, managing partner, Buckley Sandler
  • Kevin Kane, managing director, ProBank Austin
  • Marc Franson, partner, Chapman and Cutler
  • Robert Mullenbach, managing director, ProBank Austin

OLPI’s Deputy Director Bob Mullenbach stated, “Regulatory actions, which lack consistency, continue to be an industry challenge. Open, frank discussions, such as we expect from our panel during the BZ Awards, is critical for those businesses trying to successfully control regulatory risk while also doing right by their shareholders and customers.”

In addition to the panel discussion, Professor Hurley will host a fireside chat during the BZ Awards, interviewing Jeremy Potter, an experienced compliance officer, Mortgage Bankers Association committee member, and legal counsel for Quicken Loans.

We look forward to seeing everyone in NYC and encourage you to attend these informative, thought provoking sessions during the afternoon of May 15, 2018.
