To Infinity And Beyond

Turns out Buzz Lightyear might gain some company in space.

Less than a month after his company's failed Falcon 9 mission, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors Inc TSLA revealed SpaceX's plans to colonize Mars in the near future. Musk detailed his strategy at the International Astronautical Conference in Mexico earlier this week and previewed his presentation with this video, which was recently released to the public.

Although the video details his transportation strategy, it does not give information on how life will be sustained once humans land on Mars. According to some reports, Musk anticipates sending humans via reusable rockets to Mars as early as 2022. Depending on funding received, tickets could range from hundreds of thousands to billions of dollars. However, Musk relayed his hopes to make travel affordable, around $200,000.

Besides discussing the financial implications, he also commented on how to make life viable on the fourth planet from our sun, "We can grow plants on Mars," Elon explained, "just by compressing the atmosphere."
