Analysts at Wells Fargo have examined the relationship between cloud computing and virtualization, an important enabling technology.
The report mentions that “virtualization is an essential enabling technology for many of the key cloud computing attributes, and by the same token the market interest in the promise of infrastructure-level cloud computing is likely to drive growth and evolution in the virtualization ecosystem.”
The analysts list the “key implications based on customer interest in full cloud functionality” as “1) Server virtualization remains a high priority in the enterprise/durable growth likely to continue, 2) Server virtualization penetration increases, 3) Virtualization further expands its footprint from servers to other infrastructure areas, and 4) The server virtualization ecosystem includes more management and automation, blurring the divide between the two.”
In the Application Software space, the analysts have rated the shares of Adobe Systems Inc (NASDAQ: ADBE), Blackbaud, Inc (NASDAQ: BLKB), Deltek, Inc (NASDAQ: PROJ), Intuit Inc (NASDAQ: INTU) and Unica Corp (NASDAQ: UNCA) as “market perform” and the shares of Aspen Technology, Inc (NASDAQ: AZPN), Oracle Corporation (NASDAQ: ORCL), Salesforce.com, inc (NYSE: CRM), SuccessFactors, Inc (NASDAQ: SFSF) and Vocus Inc (NASDAQ: VOCS) as “outperform.” In the Infrastructure Software space, the analysts have rated the shares of ArcSight, Inc (NASDAQ: ARST), McAfee, Inc (NYSE: MFE), Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC) and Websense, Inc (NASDAQ: WBSN) as “outperform,” while rating VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW) as “market perform.”
