Will The iPhone 6s Save Apple? A Look At Its Features Might Help Find A Response

Apple Inc. AAPL is expected to present its latest iPhone, the 6s, next week, on September 9, and speculation is mounting. Investors are expecting the launch to work as a catalyst for the stock, which fell than 14 percent over the past three months, and is trading well below its 52-week high even in spite of last week’s 7.12 percent rally.

The decline in the tech behemoth’s stock price was mainly driven by worries surrounding China sales -- although CEO Tim Cook assures sales will remain stock despite tough economic conditions, Apple Music and Apple Pay, among other issues.

So, one question arises: will the new iPhone be able to restore shareholders’ confidence?

A recent Fortune article assures “there’s a good chance it will for several reasons.”

The new iPhone will allegedly come with a 12 megapixel camera, considerably better than its predecessors’. Other features include:

  • 4k video recording
  • Increased processing speed
  • Increased battery life
  • Animated wallpaper – pretty much like the Apple Watch and Android phones
  • Detection of weak Wi-Fi signal, and the ability to automatically switch to cellular networks
  • Wi-Fi calling over AT&T Inc. T, a feature previously limited to T-Mobile US Inc TMUS users.
  • Force touch -- which Fortune says is expected to be the most important new feature, “a technology that enables a device to distinguish between light and strong taps by a user and assign different functions to them, as it currently does on the Apple Watch and MacBooks. Applied to the iPhone, this could potentially be the killer feature that solidly differentiates the new iPhone from its predecessors by enhancing ease-of-use and utility.”

While Apple may find it hard to outdo its blockbuster sales for the iPhone 6, “new equipment installment plans from wireless carriers [which users are increasingly adopting] might encourage adoption for the new iPhone by consumers,” the Fortune article expounds.
