B Riley & Co's Scott Tilghman: Little Concern From FTC On Merging Office Supplies Retailers

Scott Tilghman, B Riley & Co analyst, told Benzinga that there would probably be no regulatory issues with a merger between Staples, Inc. SPLS and Office Depot Inc ODP.

“If we go back to what was published by the FTC in November of a year ago, we see that from a retail standpoint, there’s very little concern with regard to putting the different companies together,” he said.

Tilghman explained that the FTC sees a competitive landscape for the sector with no single dominant player that includes a mix of brick-and-mortar, online and regional stores.
