Motorola Solutions' MC18 Takes Shopping To A New Level - Analyst Blog

In order to enhance the shopping experience for customers, Motorola Solutions Inc. MSI has launched its fifth generation shopping wireless device – MC18 – that offers an advanced self-scanning facility to shoppers.

MC18 is a 4-inch high-resolution device with a pinch-and-zoom facility. Furthermore, the gadget is powered with Bluetooth Low-Energy BLE technology which helps customers trace products and avail promotional offers with the help of indoor maps. Moreover, it recommends complementary goods available in the store thereby providing an enhanced shopping experience. The device is integrated with an advanced battery which allows 45 minutes of use with only 15 minutes of charging.

The MC18 shopping app scans faster and more accurately than smartphone scanning software available in Google Inc.'s GOOG Android and Apple Inc.'s AAPL iOS market.

Deployed in over 2,000 shops globally, the MC18 device is already witnessing nearly 1 million transactions per day. Moreover, the gadget helps retailers keep track of customer taste and improve store management. Hence, this technology has helped retailers achieve 30% growth in basket size.

Recently, Motorola Solutions teamed up with 3M Company MMM to distribute headsets from the 3M Peltor Heavy-Duty Headset portfolio. Earlier, Motorola Solutions had announced its plans to divest its struggling Enterprise Business segment to Zebra Technologies for $3.5 billion in cash.

Meanwhile, in the second quarter of 2014, Motorola Solutions reported disappointing financial results wherein both its top and bottom line missed the corresponding Zacks Consensus Estimate. Hence, we believe that launch of such value-added services coupled with divestment of non-profitable units will drive revenues and margins for the company moving ahead.
