In an industry update released earlier today, Wunderlich Securities commented on the massive success of The Hunger Games, which has earned $250 million at the U.S. box office faster than any other non-sequel movie in history.

In the report, Wunderlich went on to say “In ending the weekend with $251m it [The Hunger Games] became the fifth fastest film to reach $250m and the fastest ever non-sequel at only 10 days. The reception to Warner Brothers' Wrath of the Titans was more tepid, with the $34.2m tally for 3D classical antiquity fading 44% from the $61.2m 2010 result for Clash of the Titans. The maiden 2012 Snow White flick Mirror Mirror was #3 at $19m as it failed to cross over demographically from young girls and their parents. The top twelve movies earned $145m, up 27% yoy [year-over-year] according to Hollywood.com.”

The upcoming Easter weekend will see the debut of two major releases: the 3D re-release of James Cameron’s blockbuster Titanic from 20th Century Fox and the comedy sequel American Reunion from Universal Pictures.
