Goldman Sachs Publishes Report on Retail Broadlines
In its report, Goldman Sachs writes, “The kick off to the holiday season highlighted that customers were on the hunt for deals. November's performance was split between early winners and losers. Retailers that did not effectively draw the attention of an increasingly value-oriented consumer lost as compared to those who demonstrated a credible value proposition, opened early or offered free shipping. The big question that remains is whether November's strong start was pull forward or incremental; December's extra day should deliver better sales.”
Companies included in the Goldman Sachs report are: J.C. Penney Company (NYSE: JCP), Kohl's Corporation (NYSE: KSS), Ross Stores (NASDAQ: ROST), Saks Incorporated (NYSE: SKS), and Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT)
