Bullard Bullish on U.S.
James Bullard--President of the St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank--characterized the U.S. economy as being in sustainable recovery, according to ForexLive.
If the U.S. economic recovery continues this year as he anticipates, the Federal Reserve should be able to "take back" some of the easy money policies it employed to combat the recent economic crisis, he stated, according to Dow Jones.
He was careful to note that the Fed's near-zero interest rates and massive balance sheet would remain in place for the time being.
Bullard currently is not a serving member of the Federal Open Market Committee but has been an avid deflation hawk.
Traders looking to play U.S. dollar strength could consider PowerShares DB US Dollar Bullish Index (NYSE: UUP).
Investors should weight whether or not they believe Bullard's assessment of future economic growth before taking a position on the dollar.
