QuickLogic Corporation QUIK, a developer of low-power customizable semiconductor solutions, declared the immediate accessibility of its unique S1 Wearables Sensor Hub for next-generation wearable applications.
QuickLogic's complete, distinctive solutions lend momentum to OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) in heralding new wearable applications to market.
S1 Wearables Sensor Hub
QuickLogic, a trendsetter in ultra-low-power Customer Specific Standard Products (CSSP), launched its latest Catalog CSSP using the company's ArcticLink 3 S1 silicon platform. The ultra-low-power, context-aware sensor hub is optimized for next-generation wearable uses with utilization in various industries, particularly the health and fitness industry.
QuickLogic's native support of a range of gestures lends OEMs the resilience to develop smarter, more precise and perceptive fitness and health applications. In addition, QuickLogic's technology has very low power requirements, which is critical for the always-on context-aware services envisioned in next generation devices.
Gesture Algorithms
The S1 Wearables sensor hub solution includes gesture algorithms such as "Tap-to-Wake" and "Rotate-Wrist-To-Wake," in addition to other algorithms and software that are vital in meeting the short design cycles that OEMs require.
The "Tap-to-Wake" and "Rotate-Wrist-To-Wake" algorithms facilitate wearable devices to respond to user movements and gestures without activating the power-consuming host application processor or microcontroller. Developed internally by QuickLogic, these algorithms ensure long battery life for the devices using ultra-low-power sensor hub technology.
These gesture algorithms will help OEMs to develop smart sensor applications for the growing wearables market and enrich consumer experience.
Future Prospects
QuickLogic customizes its ultra-low-power sensor hub, empowered with contextual awareness and gesture recognition, specifically for the wearables market. Its solutions are set to help OEMs deliver highly differentiated products with a reduced time-to-market.
Market research firm NPD DisplaySearch predicts that the highly fragmented market for wearable devices could touch 48 million units in 2014 and 91 million in 2015. QuickLogic, with its distinctive sensor hub technology, is poised to capitalize on the lucrative opportunities that this nascent market offers.
