Provider of comprehensive water, hygiene and energy technologies and services, Ecolab Inc. ECL, recently launched SaniSave – a no rinse cleaner-sanitizer that simplifies the cleaning and sanitizing process at food retail delis.

With the introduction of SaniSave, food retail employees can now clean and disinfect food preparation surfaces and equipment, including deli slicers, scales and meat display cases, with one product. It eliminates the need to mix, collect and transport three separate containers to stationary devices and surfaces.

Using SaniSave, a deli employee is simply required to spray the cleaner-sanitizer on a food contact surface, wipe it off, spray again, and allow the surface to remain wet for 60 seconds. The surface can then be allowed to air dry or wiped clean before re-use.

SaniSave is both a “food contact” and “non-food contact” cleaner-sanitizer. It is registered under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) against Klebsiella pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Listeria monocytogenes (types of bacterium).

The mandatory four-hour wash-rinse-sanitize procedure, directed by the Food Code, poses to be quite a challenge for food retailers. SaniSave reduces the complexity of this industry-standard protocol by combining the cleansing and sanitizing process into one product and eliminating the rinse step.

The new SaniSave Program consists of SaniSave, training materials and proprietary dispensing technology. It cleans better and improves productivity by taking lesser time than a standard wash-rinse-sanitize regimen.

A field research was executed on the SaniSave Program using 100 deli slicer swab sites. The swab sites showed significantly improved cleaning at a microbiological level. After a three-week period on the SaniSave Program, the percentage of “in spec” swab samples increased by 83%.

In the last reported quarter, ECL's Food & Beverage business drove significant growth in its Global Industrial segment. With the combination of its advanced Cleaning & Sanitizing technologies, water treatment and pest elimination capabilities, ECL continues to deliver improved food safety results and better product quality assurances for customers.

Going ahead, ECL expects good organic growth in its Food & Beverage business through increased customer penetration and new business gains which has enabled the company to offset sluggish conditions in several of its regional markets.
