The third-largest wireless carrier in the U.S., Sprint Corp. S launched WeGo phone, its first mobile phone for children. The device is expected to help parents keep a close watch on their children.

Of late, smartphones and tablets have gained immense popularity among teenagers. However, children below 12 years are less attracted to mobile devices and are prone to misusing the technology.

The WeGo phones are shatterproof and water resistant. The phone also has an address book which can save up to 20 contacts. Moreover, its GPS technology helps parents locate their kids. The most important feature of the mobile phone is the Panic alarm which rings or sends message alerts to parents in case the phone is switched off or the tether string is pulled.

The WeGo phone is priced at $120 with a monthly payment option of $20 for a span of two years. Sprint also offers a $10 monthly service plan for the handset which includes 1,000 minutes of talk time and 1,000 messages.

In the fourth quarter of 2013, Sprint gained approximately 477,000 million subscribers. Quarterly operating revenues inched up 1.5% year over year to $9,142 million and also surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $8,975 million.

Hence, we believe that such innovative product launches will help Sprint maintain its top-line growth in the upcoming quarters by targeting a completely new market for the company.

Currently, Sprint has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
