YouMail Visual Voicemail for jailbroken iPhones opens the door to new possibilities
Last week, Saurik IT and Jay Freeman announced the release of a new version of YouMail Visual Voicemail (Cydia link) for jailbroken iPhone users running iOS 4 or better. YouMail Visual Voicemail allows users to expand on the visual voicemail features already found on the iPhone; it adds the ability to “automatically greet callers by name,” “create custom greetings for specific callers,” forward voicemails to different contacts, and check your voicemail from any computer.
The jailbreak tweak was built by Dustin Howett, a renowned developer in the jailbreaking community. He used the YouMail public API to help build the add-on for devices. When asked, Alex Quilici, CEO of YouMail, stated this: “We created our public API because we thought people could use it to quickly create really interesting messaging apps, and Cydia has done that.”
We're currently in the process of reaching Mr. Quilici and Mr. Freeman for some further questions. Stay tuned.
