WordPress celebrates its 8th birthday

Yesterday, Friday, May 27th, 2011, marked the eighth (8) birthday for arguably the most popular blogging software on the Internet, WordPress. On May 27th, 2003, founder Matt Mullenweg announced the release of WordPress to the public for the first time.

Fast forward to today, WordPress is used on millions of websites and is gearing up for a version 3.2 release in the coming months. It has evolved into a powerful blogging tool for both professionals and people new to the world of blogging. WordPress has been downloaded over 38.5 million times since it was launched eight years ago.
